This major council housing rehabilitation program continues today and has been in progress since the year 2000. The architect was commissioned to rehabilitate 1920's constructed housing to meet 21st century standards within a maximum budget of 1000 psm.
The buildings required new interior and external walls, floors, common areas, and a substantial improvement in heating for the winter climate using more economical heating facilities, plus greatly improved insulation products in walls and ceilings.
The addition of balconies in a galvanised industrial steel gives the façade accent and provides a small but practical outdoor area with privacy for each tenant. Modernising continued with cable TV connections, plus improvement to living spaces with polished floor boards in the living room and tiled flooring for the kitchen.
The project is complemented by landscaped garden areas and BBQ amenities.
