This commission was achieved after the Architects firm won first place in a competition to restore this 15th century baroque inspired and heritage listed building.
The building had been converted several times previously and on each occasion it lost more instinctive character and beauty. The design of the renovation was clearly to restore it to its original stature and lend to this importantly historical city of Merzig.
The antique Baroque roof was preserved with refurbished window gables keeping to the style of this period. The stone work on the façade was rendered but the character of this period is infused using the corner elements which are refurbished baroque stones.
The finished design clearly states that historical conservation can be achieved with economical solutions to create a contemporary piece of architecture and preserve this important and stately building.
