Wolfgang Rost secures commission to restore and revive, Peter Behrens Villa from 20th Century

Saarbrücken (Germany)… May 2003, Wolfgang Rost Architect a leading German based designer has won the contract to restore the heritage listed Villa Obenauer, one of only 3 private homes designed by the world famous designer Peter Behrens.

Behrens who’s work transcends the 19th and 20th centuries of Architecture and design is most renowned as the original teacher of Bauhaus, a period of design that saw global architecture transition from ornate to contemporary, minimal and simple.

Behrens influenced designers such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier, and his trade mark style of strong lines, balance and proportions are prevalent in this villa located in Saarbrucken, Germany.

Rost competed for the project against more than 30 other designers and his passion and many years experience in the renovation of historical buildings one him the trust of the client.

The project is being closely watched by the Saarland based German heritage council.

Wolfgang Rost said “This project is not only a major milestone in my career but I feel privileged to be chosen to revive and restore this masterpiece of modern design, from one of my most revered and respected designers”. Rost continued, “The designs my client have decided on respect Behrens principles in the original layout, whilst breathing new life into this magnificent villa for the modern family to embrace and enjoy”.
